Hand and wrist sizes haven't changed much over the past century, yet the watch industry currently produces watches with cases as large as 60 millimeters. Now it's time for pens to expand their dimensions!
Although they may seem like a novelty, giant pens have already appeared several times in the past decades.

Our archives tell us that in the days when Montegrappa was still called “Elmo - Gold Nib Factory...”, some of our amazing giant pens reached 27cm in length and 3cm in diameter!
Many of them were produced in the 1940s and 1950s, often designed as "private labels" or customized with high-sounding names like Gucci or Vespa, and likely used as promotional items. It's truly hard to imagine how you could write with something the size of a large breadstick.
Between these giants and the “normal” pens, with a standard length of 13-15 cm when closed, are the so-called “hero pens”: large pens suitable for everyday use, which however give their best when placed in plain sight on a desk or on the table at a board meeting.
Contrary to current trends in primary markets such as Japan, the United States and the United Arab Emirates, we decided it was time to say “no” to downsizing, that is, the trend of offering smaller-sized pens.
Hero pens can serve simply as status symbols or emphasize special signatures, such as those on treaties and contracts. Visually imposing, they make exceptional commemorative objects. To create its first maxi-format pen, Montegrappa chose one of its most iconic collections—the NeroUno, which reaches the impressive dimensions of approximately 151 mm in length and 17 mm in diameter.
The new NeroUno Grande pens are made of resin with palladium-plated hardware and are available in fountain pen, rollerball, and ballpoint versions. What all the oversized versions have in common is their striking presence, which guarantees fun for everyday use and beyond.
